2016/17 Captain & Vice Captain

Furnace United RFC is pleased to announce that they will be led on the field this season by second row Geraint ‘Mad Dog’ Williams. He will be ably deputised by Luke Jenkins in what is a role reversal from last year. Having picked up a number of awards in our end of season presentation night, Geraint’s natural ability has never been in doubt. However, it is the standards he sets on and off the field that have caught the eyes of the coaching staff. Off the field, he is always one of the first players to arrive at training and one of the last to leave. On it, his commitment and competitive edge really shines through. Not the most vocal of players, Geraint epitomises the phrase “leading by example” and has more than earned the honour of having his name immortalised on the Captain’s board.

After learning of his appointment Geraint said he was “honoured to be taking on the role and is looking forward to the challenges the forthcoming season will bring.” He also urged the squad to “continue the hard work that has been put in during preseason” and that he was “excited by where he feels this current crop of players can get to if they realise their potential”.

The club would also like to take this opportunity to thank Luke Jenkins for all his hard work and dedication last season. He too has a fantastic attitude towards training and playing and did a sterling job as captain in what was a tough season all round. The pair will continue to work together and support each other through what promises to be an exciting season. The coaching staff are behind you both 100% and I’m sure every player and club member would echo those sentiments.

Geraint will run out as captain this Saturday (20th August) in our opening game of the season. We will be kicking off at 2.30pm at New Dock Stars RFC. I’d encourage all ex players, supporters and friends of Furnace to come along and get behind our young squad. Your support goes a long way and is very much appreciated.
